Diverse Ink: Writing Retreat for Grad Student Engineers

April 29, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Stacey Nicholas Chair for Diversity in Engineering Education, Prof. Michelle Digman, in partnership with OAI Engineering (Office of Outreach, Access and Inclusion) are organizing a writing series for Engineering Graduate Students.

Why would students consider this?
Writing plays a crucial role in students’ academic success, yet many face challenges in being productive in their writing. Unlike professional tasks with set deadlines, writing often lacks immediate urgency, leading to procrastination.

Recognizing these limitations, our solution is to launch a Writing Initiative that brings together Engineering Graduate students to support each other in developing good writing habits and celebrating successes. Through retreats and weekly meetings, participants dedicate time to writing, fostering accountability and camaraderie among folks needing to write.

What is the plan?
We have organized the writing initiative called “Diverse Ink: The Stacey Nicholas Writing Sessions for Graduate Students in Engineering”
We have planned several writing sessions this April:
1) Writing session #1 Monday April 8th: Room 3201 Nat Sci 2, 10am-4pm, Pizza Lunch and snacks (you can drop by anytime!)
2) Writing session #2 Monday April 22th:  Room 3201 Nat Sci 2, 10am-4pm, Pizza Lunch and snacks (you can drop by anytime!)
3) Writing Retreat Session#3: Monday April 29th in person at the off-campus location next to Herb and Ranch (We prefer that students attend the entire day)

How to sign up?
If you are interested in attending any of the three session please sign up in this link here: https://forms.gle/j4tnVF33Gmk4zfhX9

See the attached flyer for the retreat. Feel free to advertise this to any graduate student in Engineering who may be interested!
