SWE UCI is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that serves as the driving force to establish engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. Our collegiate section empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations, as well as to be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

We provide many resources and events for those within our community. The annual SWE UCI Scholarship, for example, awards one incoming first-year and one transfer student $1000 each to ease the financial burden of college. We also host an annual Industry Networking Night, which is a banquet style event where students and company representatives can network for the duration of the night over dinner. A keynote speaker will begin the night with an inspiring speech to all attendees, and as dinner continues topics such as career experiences, company culture and potential opportunities are discussed by representatives. SWE UCI’s Industry Networking Night is highly popular among all engineering students. Additionally, the annual WE National conference, hosted by SWE, is attended by our members every year to connect with SWE collegiate sections and professionals around the country.

SWE maintains a positive environment for our members through our mentorship program, which strengthens community among students. In addition to having a personal mentor, our mentorship program utilizes families to explore academic guidance, professional development and personal growth. Our organization also gives back to those around us through numerous outreach events including the Girl Scout’s of Orange County’s Annual STEM Expo. In addition, we aid incoming students with their transition to university by hosting events such as Inside Scoop on Engineering for first-year students, and Transfer Tea with SWE for transfer students. We take pride in the academic success of our general members but also value hosting fun socials to make new connections and de-stress during a busy quarter. Our past socials include a Succulent Social, HalloSWEen Movie Night, and Holiday Cookie Decorating, with many more planned for the future!

Over the years, SWE at UCI has received numerous awards and recognition including but not limited to 2023 Membership Growth Award awarded by SWE WE Local, Most Outstanding Student Organization 2021-2022 & Most Outstanding President of the Year 2021-2022, both awarded by UCI’s Office of Campus Organizations and Volunteer Programs (COVP). We are grateful to receive the consistent support of our community and to be recognized for the work our organization does.
